FISHING AND FLYFISHING IN LAPLAND

The area is dominated by the river Muonio, and it is above all for grayling and also brown- trout that Muonio, with smaller rivers is well known. During the main-season these are possible to wade, so the rivers are very suitable for fly fishing. There are also some lakes in the area with grayling and trout. The fishing is done around the clock as the sun never sets, the Midnight Sun....Salmon and sea-trout come up the Muonio river all the 300 km long way from the Baltic Sea. This river is of tradition the most important salmon-river in the Baltic area.

The last years the amount of salmon in the river has increased, but it is very shifting. Due to stronger regulations in the sea-fishing, the river will in some years be back in old shape again. The local method for catching salmon is harling from boat with spoon or wobbler, but more and more flyfishing (fly fishing) for salmon is seen. Fishing for salmon though de- mands a lot of patience and skill. The size of the salmon goes from 5 kg to around 30 kg for the biggest ones...
